I have a 96 evinrude112 sp and every time I try to start the boat at the boat ramp trying to launch it takes my forever to start. It takes me about 5-10 turning and turning the motor over just to start it but once it is warned up is start with no problems. And what I wanna know is what can i do to the motor to make it start faster when cold starting??

  1. change the spark plugs to a hotter plug explain the situation to a reputable parts suppler

  2. start by changing the plugs and air cleaner element.cleaning the carbs good might help. is the choke/enrichener working properly? It might be time for a good tune up.carb adjust and clean. my fishing buddy has an evenrude , his advance unit went bad, sounds like a similar problem.

  3. Sounds like you're not using your choke .  You can pull the throttle out(gear shifter) and keep the engine at a higher rpm until it's warmed up.   I'm sure you know how to do this, but if you don't  just put your hand on the center part of the gear shifter and pull out.  This will allow you to rev up the engine while still being neutral

  4. Fix your choke.

  5. Add a priming bulb to the fuel line.

  6. If I remember right that make and model has a oil injecter?  If so the reson why is when the boat is sitting the oil is dripping into the bowls of the carbs still.  This is making the carbs harder to prim them self, and making a strong ratio of fuel to oil.  My suggestion is either shut off or kink the oil suppy lines to the carb if you plan not to use you boat for awhile.  Another thing is to trim your motor down after your done parking it.  This seems to help a little.  This will save you a bunch of money guy.  Spark plugs arent cheap.  Everytime you start this or any other motor that has a mechanical oil injector has the same problem.  Another hint use a semi synthetic 2-stroke oil.  Cleaner burning.  Good luck

  7. you need to use bigger jets.... that should fix it right up....it may be as simple as cleaning the choke circuit, if the problem has recently started..

  8. How about hotter plugs?
