  1. you should not have to as it should do it on start up then move the to other parts of the disk

  2. Assuming that you mean how to schedule a boot-time scan, here you go:

First, if you haven't already done this, merge your two Avast icons in your tray by your clock (this isn't *really* necessary, but it makes things easier). Then right-click on the one with the revolving "a" and click on "Start Avast Antivirus". You can let it run the memory scan if you want to, or you can stop the memory scan. When the memory scan is done, a new screen will come up, either the "Simple User Interface", or the media player face.  The Simple User Interface is self-explanatory... if this is the interface that you have, just skip down to where I wrote "Schedule Boot-Time Scan".

If you are using the skin with the media player face, look in the upper left corner of the player face for a button that looks like the eject button on your CD player. That will bring up the Avast menu. From there click on "Schedule Boot-Time Scan".

On the next screen tick "Scan all local disks", and "Scan archive files".  Then you can tick "Advanced options" so that Avast will stop and ask you what you want it to do, or you can leave that box alone and (I think) it will automatically quarantine what it finds. (I use Advanced Options so that it stops and asks me.)

Then click on "Schedule" and it will ask you if you want to reboot now.

When you do, it will restart and the scan will start before Windows starts.

It is easier to do than to type it ;-)

    The end.
