How can I make a copy of a VHS onto a DVD?

ok, i have the Toshiba D-R4 ( website-http://www.tacp.toshiba.com/dvd/product.asp?model=d-r4) and would like to know if it can make VHS into a DVD. and to make my life simpler i have a TV/VHS/DVD-player. my recorder is seperate. i tried playing it, then hitting record only to find it recorder what was on tv at the time. the recorder also has Line-1 and Line-2. or is my recorder "obsolete."

You should be able to record from a vhs tape to a dvd just as you would from a tv source. But, commercial vhs tapes have copy protection so your recordings may come out distorted. I guess you'll have to try and see. Make sure you're recording from the vcr's Out connections and not the tv :)
