Hi everyone, i need lots of help!!!

I need to make a model of a plant or animal cell.

I have no idea of what to make it out of!

All my friends have got ideas on how they are going to do it and there is a progress check tomorrow (2nd September).

I don't want to have a styrofoam ball chopped in half or food or anything like that.......something original........

It has to be handed up in 2 weeks.....

Please help!!

Thanks!

  1. if you're willing to spend some money use play-doh (gosh i remember the days when I had bio, great times, hopefully you enjoy it too).

Either you can buy the individual containers (of the different colors of play-doh) or you can make it yourself, although I don't know how to make play-doh but I'm certain it's doable. What's great about it is that it's malleable so you can shape it into anything you want it to look like from the nucleus to the vacuole and they'll all have different colors so you'll have no trouble telling them apart.

If that's too expensive you can always try using construction paper, just cut out the shapes (and i'm assuming it has to be somewhat 3-d), so just tape one end to the other to form the membrane (and also make a "bottom" (so it's sort of an extremely large cup/bowl). and for the organelles just make it flat so for your chloroplast for example just draw the outline of it and cut it out. Then use straws or something and tape one end to the back of your organelle and the other to the "bottom" of your membrane.

It's midnight and those are the two ideas i could come up with. Sorry.

  2. Hi build a 2 Dimensional image out of plaster (POP) and then color it the way you want it. that's how we did it and its not very heavy to carry and cheap

  3. one way you can try would be to fill a (strong and not permeable) plastic bag with water/jelly. Green marbles for the chloroplast.

For the nucleus, you can use a marble, wrap it with plasticine, and cover it with foil, to show the different layers inside the nucleus.

If you need to put the endoplasmic reticulum etc in, you can try thick strings that resemble it.

Another way would be making jelly and putting everything in a plastic container and let it harden, so that the different parts do not move..

Good luck in making your model!
