How can I make a noticable temperatre difference in a leopard gecko's tank?

We have the right sized tank with the heat lamp on one side of the tank, but the whole tank feels the same temperature. He was under a hiding place trying to get cooler. How can I make sure one side is warm and still keep the other side the right temperature?

You might want to get a lower wattage buld if the whole cage is the same temp. It should be hotter on the side you have the bulb
