My husband and I will be flying from US -> egypt on a european airline in october with our 16 month old. I will be 7 months pregnant and won't have much space for him to sit in my lap, plus I really want to make sure that he will get good undisturbed sleep on the plane.

International airlines will generally NOT accept US carseats in the seats, so please don't suggest that... we're planning to go by british airways or KLM or lufthansa.

Should I get 2 seats in a bulkhead row and hope we get a baby cot for him, or 3 seats in a regular row so he can sleep across our laps, or something else?

  1. Personally, I'd suggest that you buy your toddler his own seat. I always does this since my son is 10 months old because he's a very active baby and even worst now that he's a toddler LOL.

Baby cot might be too small for your son but it all depends on how much he weighs and how tall he is. Try to check the airline's website for their rules about it.  I've been flying internationally with mine since he was 8 months old (just the 2 of us so you'll have your husband's help which will be great) and he hated the baby bassinet. I will try to avoid the bulkhead seat because the hand rest does not pull up which will make it hard to lay your son down if he sleeps.

Also try to check CARES (http://kidsflysafe.com/). Most airlines already accept this and it is so much better than lugging along a big car seat. I've flown with it a lot and even Korean airline allows me to use it on their flight. It really is a great invention and I highly recomend it.

    Good luck.

  2. childseat

  3. I would get 2 seats in a bulkhead row, and hope.  Try to change up his nap schedule a day or two before your flight so he can play before the flight and then take a really long nap on the flight.  If you can afford it, try to get first-class seats (only two, those are big seats) so it is a lot quieter and easier for him to sleep.
