I can see my mom is having a hard time feeding me dinner. What can I do to help my mom have food for me at dinner. It's easy if we have like a meat and she will usually make 2 sides because then I will just eat the sides with something else.

If we have something like hamburger helper I don't know what to eat.

My mom bought these things for me.

I have vegetarian vegetable soup

salads

bean and cheese frozen buritos

vegetarian baked beans

we also have pizza macaroni and cheese and things like that

  1. Go shopping with her so you can read ingredients and figure out some meals together.  Get Amy's or other vegetarian frozen foods for you to eat when the main course is meat-based.

With things like Hamburger Helper and spaghetti sauce, ask her to set some aside without the meat.  Then you can add beans, soy meat, or veggies to yours if you want.

I have lived with meat-eaters for years, and have learned lots of meals can be made with and without meat.  Even chili dogs can be made vegetarian.

  2. tHow about this proposal?  If you want to be a vegetarian, why don't you buy & cook your own food?  That would be really, really easy on your mom.

  3. Well, it sounds as if you're doing what makes sense--she makes the sides vegetarian, and while your family eats the meat, you eat an analogue (veggie burger, veggie dog, etc.).  It's what I suggest when a teenager goes veg in a non-veg family.

When she makes stuff like meaty casseroles or hamburger helper, that's when you get a frozen dinner or leftovers.  If she's making a casserole, maybe she can make your portion veg and the rest meat.  You, of course, should help her in the kitchen by doing whatever is appropriate for someone your age.

You could also take time on the weekend to cook up some vegetarian meals for when your mom is making hamburger helper or the like, and freeze them.  Then when she has the meal you can't eat, you just defrost and heat up your meal.  Or just cook pasta and sauce and make a small salad.

Amy's is a wonderful, all-vegetarian company, and she has several types of frozen dinners.  While they are expensive, she uses organic ingredients and no preservatives or artificial ingredients.  You can also get canned soups.  I can also tell you that the prices for Amy's is less at stores like Whole Foods than at conventional grocery stores, so if there is a Whole Foods near you, ask your mom to take you there to get your Amy's foods.  If there's a Trader Joe's in your area, they also have some vegetarian and vegan frozen meals.

I have to say, it sounds as if you're doing things right.  The person you should really ask is your mom.  Ask  her what you can do to make your vegetarianism easy for the family.

  4. i go shopping with my mom and we buy beans and lentils which r really cheap (especially dry) a couple fake meats, some veggies and fruit, nuts an seeds (i bought soy nuts today.. im in love!)

it is not hard or expensive to be a vegetarian..

    also check out farmers markets

  5. Do some of the cooking.  I would not catter to my kid's food wim's unless they were going to do a significant amount of the cooking.

  6. You need to fix yourself fresh vegetables, being a vegetarian  doesn't mean not eating meat period.I means eating healthy balanced meals so you are the one who needs the information and then you can lighten your mothers burden.

  7. make your own meals

  8. offer to cook some nights

  9. buy some tofu packets that you can combine easily with other dishes...(rices, pastas)

you should learn to enjoy more vegetable sources of protein also like beans, lentils, legumes which can also be made into soups, sauces..

  10. ^^ just buy veggies in your local store... actually its easier to be a vegetable eater than a meat eater...

vegetable cooks faster.. about 2 minutes in HIGH fire..

i always eat boiled/stir fried assorted veggies

its look difficult because youre starting out but if u get used to it , that would be nothing..
