  1. Any-one can make a bow, but a good one is a skilled project.

    Try a kit.: www.possibleshop.com/bow-kit.htm

A wild boar is also a bit ambitious.

Arrows don't kill quick, and an angry boar is a dangerous animal.

Set your sights a bit lower to start.

  2. While making your own bow is a rather ambitious thing to do if you have never done any wood-working before (and I have no way of knowing what sort of experience you have), I commend you for wanting to learn.

Here are a few websites for you to look through; the ones I consider as the "best", first:

http://primitiveways.com/ (lots of "Primitive" things, including bows and arrows - and slings and traps)

http://www.primitivearcher.com/smf/index... (forum where you can ask questions, get answers - and learn; more info than I could give you here)

http://tradgang.com/ (another forum...pay special attention to the section titled "Dr. Ashby Reports" for information on just ***how*** an arrow kills)

    http://www3.sympatico.ca/ragiwarmbear/di...

    http://www.geocities.com/greenmanarchery...

And some of what I sometimes call "second string" sites (they are still good websites):

    http://www.grandpappy.info/wbow.htm

If you really want to learn how to make a bow that will last for years (and years, and years), spend some money and get the Traditional Bowyer's Bible series, Volumes 1 through 4; they are written by the most respected Professional Bowyers/Arrow Makers around. Do a web search on "Traditional Bowyer's Bible" and you will be able to find some really great deals on the books (as low as $11 per volume, in some cases). The books are worth the price, guaranteed -- and no, I am not one of the writers, nor will I make any money from any sales of the books.

Use any of the above links along with the books, and you will have all the information you need to  make a bow and arrow that is worth having and using. And they will be good enough to kill just about anything, including a "wildbore". :-)

  3. i made my own bows out of a few saplings about 2 inches in diameter. simply cut down a fairly straight but strong tree, cut the notches in the ends and make your bowstring. the bowstring can be a little tricky. what i did was, i took 3 pieces of twine about the same length as the bow (give or take a few inches) and braided them together. tie a bowline knot in one end and work your way up. once you have finished, tie another bowline knot in the other end. this is so you can put it on the bow and it acts as a slipknot, tightening on itself. given the circumstances, your bowstring will be a good bit shorter than the bow; this is the hard part. you will have to bend the bow and, avoiding possible finger amputation from the string pressure, loop it on the other end. the arrows can be made of simple oak branches.

the bow i made was made of wild cherry and had a strength equivalence of about 50 pounds. not bad for something homemade.

  4. Don't listen to them Lofo

I can never understand why people answer how to questions by telling the person that it can't be done

All that means is that they can't do it so they assume that others also can't

The American con do spirit is definitely lacking in them

My cousin built his first bow himself and then used it to kill deer

    There are many plans available

Here is one for the more competent wood worker

Fish through these sites to see if anything else fits your needs

  5. How do you re-invent the wheel? Study how existing wheels are made. Same thing with a bow. Of course you're unlikely to ever make one as good as the cheapest one at Wal-mart while you expend countless hours and a fortune experimenting with methods and materials, but to each his own.

  6. If you were an experienced bow marksman you would not be asking this question.  It's one thing to be a good bow shot and attempt to build a bow of your own for field work.  It's another issue all together to be a total newbie and try to make a working bow - this would be very frustrating for you to accomplish....... and a very good chance you could hurt yourself badly - loose an eye or part of your lip or nose.

Your best be to do this - buy a used or inexpensive bow that will do the kind of work you desire (wild bore) and learn how to use it well.  Once you get the basics down........ then consider the level of skills required to construct one.  There is allot of force and pressure generated by a bow - if the bow malfunctions someone is going to get hurt - either the shooter or a bystander.

    Hope this helps
