  1. try this method if u like :)

    CORNSTARCH CORN SYRUP

    2/3 c. water

    2 tbsp. cornstarch

    2 c. sugar

    1/8 tsp. powdered alum

    1/8 tsp. vanilla

Mix the cornstarch with the cold water; place in a saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring while cooking. When it becomes clear, add the sugar. Boil down until it is the thickness of prepared corn syrup. It will thicken some as it cools. Add 1/8 teaspoon powdered alum and stir in. Flavor with vanilla. A drop of yellow food coloring will give it just the right color. After adding the sugar, stir only to dissolve.

Note: The powdered alum keeps the syrup from forming crystals. The cornstarch gives it smoothness.

Dark Syrup: Use brown sugar in place of the white in either recipe.

Honey: Use either recipe above, flavor with orange flavoring. Add yellow food coloring, 1 to 2 drops.

  2. If you are looking for a corn syrup substitute........   I would just make a simple syrup.  Adding the corn flour is going to give you a less then desirable texture and consistency.    Simples syrup:   3 cups sugar to 2 1/2 cups water..... bring to a boil for 1 minute..... and then lower heat and cook for an additional 5 minutes.....stirring frequently.   Just don't over cook it..... or you will make caramel.

  3. Well, why not try! Bring 1 cup white sugar and 2 cups water to a boil. Blend about 2 tablespoons corn starch with half cup cold water, and stir this into the boiling simple syrup. Cook until it is clear. Then I would add a teaspoon of vanilla extract to give it some taste.

I have not tried this but it sounds like it might work.

  4. Make a Simple Syrup!!  1 cup water to one cup sugar. Simple, Don't use corn syrup, it is bad for you and this recipe can last in the frig for weeks

  5. No you cannot make corn syrup from corn flour and sugar.

Corn syrup is made by boiling corn solids down for a long time and under just the right conditions.

If you need corn syrup for a recipe, just buy some.

Corn syrup IS NOT THE SAME as "high-fructose-corn-syrup" which is getting a lot of well deserved bad press.

All of the above recipes for simple syrup might work as a substitute, but I doubt it.

  6. No! Corn syrup is the juice from the corn, after it has been cooked and naturally thickened. Your best bet is to add equal parts water and white sugar, and heat over the stove. Heat until both are blended. The syrup should be opaque and white-clear. Be careful, sugar gets very hot.
