How can I make horse jumps, just simple ones are good!?

Ok, well I have a lovely nice flat paddock but no jumps. Not even a suitable log. So I need to make some jumps because really $130 not including the poles is ridiculous!

I also don't have that much money spare......

Thanks

  1. As the above said, use barrels for stands. Or you could use pvc piping for poles, however you have the danger of the horse stepping on them and cracking and injuring your horse.

Pieces of wood or old timber can be found at old timber yards, and you can paint them bright colours too.

  2. My dear friend,

I know the price is really ridiculous.

So you have to get busy. Go find big barrels(the height you want your jump to be. Then find some wood and cut it to thin pieces like poles.

That is the easiest and cheapest way to make your own horse jumps.

    Good luck.

  3. You have some good ideas already, but I do want to point out that PVC pipes are not too safe to use for jump poles.  They are too light and can also shatter easily.  Someone I knew said they used PVC pipes filled with sand to weight them down (I have no clue what they used on the ends, to keep the sand in!) but that still doesn't solve the problem of them splintering or shattering on impact.  Instead, I would look into getting some wooden poles or rails that are used for fences, like this type or something similar:

You could also see if there is a hardware/lumber store in your area that sells "seconds" or slightly imperfect/overstocks of lumber.  They might have better deals on poles or rails than the Home Depot or Lowe's would.

  4. PEOPLE.... are you serious???

the easiest cheapest way to make horse jumps

is get some tyres (cars, truck, tractor....etc)

    and a log/tree branch etc

stack the tyres to ur required height and place a branch across the top

just make sure u wear jumping boots on ur horse to protect the legs while jumping

  5. Here are some websites I found to build yourself where you can save a lot of money good Luck

  6. You need

    1 4x4x8' cut in half ($15)

    2 2x4x12' cut into 16  18" long boards ($8)

3 PVC drainage pipes ($30) You need 2 for a X and one for a ground line

    1 set jump cups ($15)

Drill holes in the 4x4's at intervals to hold your jump cups.

s***w the boards at one end of each 4x4 in a pin wheel (be sure you are on level ground)

Get some old paint and customize!

You have a jump (that is SAFE and looks Gooood!) for under $70

"old pieces of wood" can be WAY more dangerous than a PVC pipe..Stay safe!!
