How can I make lavender oil? And is olive oil the only base oil to use?

I have 3 very over-grown lavender plants I need to cut back. Instead of just throwing them away I would like to make oil out of them, and if anyone knows of anything else I can make out of them would be great. The easier the better...

  1. go find a girl named Lavender and liiiiiiick her like a lollipop.  KABAM!

  2. lol the guy above me is right. it takes a lot of flowers to make a small amount of essential oil BUT you can easily make an infused oil. its not as powerful but it works pretty good. usea few handfuls of lavender and mix in a jar of olive or almond, coconut, avocado, grapeseed etc.. (there are tons of base oils you can use) shake this mixture everyday for a week or so, then strain and pour into another bottle and use. you can also use the lavender as an air/room purifier. mix the lavender with water or vinegar in a spray bottle and spray away

  3. to get a suffiecient amount of Lavender oil you would need like 100's of pounds of the flower to get just one ounce.  Probably like the other person suggested make some lavender water.  Come on it's not that expensive or is it.  I get the 4 oz. bottle produced by NOW brands for $7.53.  That's at this store Vitamin Plus in Lafayette, LA.  The store doesn't accept credit cards and I think that's what keeps their prices low.

Lavender oil can be mixed with any of the carrier oils, not just olive.
