How can I make mid-length hair look hippie-ish (read details)?

I'm a 15 year old male. My hair right now is pretty long. Bangs are down to my chin, and the back of my hair goes to almost my shoulder. My parents are making me cut my hair this weekend, but I don't want to lose my "hippie touch". I still want the look I have right now, and I can't say no to the haircut (for reasons I can't explain online).

Please help! My bangs will probably be down to my nose, and the back of my hair to my neck.

wear a thin headband around your forehead and just above your ears, and part it down the middle?
