Question:

How can I make more room in my closet?

I have a walk in closet that isn't very big,and not a lot of space to hang stuff up because of the 3 shelves and one big on that goes across the top, I use these to store my junk on or my shoes. I have a dresser that has 3 drawers and a bed that has three drawers underneath. I can't fit anymore clothes in my drawers or my closet, I also don't want to get rid of any of my clothes because I wear them all. Is there any suggestions to help me make more space??

  1. The best way is to organize your clothes by long items ( dresses, long coats etc.) and short items ( jeans, pants, shorts, tops, blouses etc. ).  Then get a closet organizer that has two levels of hanger space, one on top of the other for all your short items while leaving all the long items on the single space.  You'll be able to hang twice as many items in the same area that you had before as far as the short items.  My wife and I both have an area designed this way and I try to keep all my pants and shorts on the bottom and all my shirts on top.  She keeps her jeans and pants on the bottom level and her tops and blouses on the top level.  Without this arrangement we wouldn't have nearly the room.  I know they make all kinds of metal framing options now for closets and I'm pretty sure they're available at Walmart and similar stores.

  2. A bit of organizing should do the trick. Get everything out, separate by seasonal wear, shoes, "junk", accessories, coats, dresses, etc. Find "multiple" hangers (5 garments hang down from one hanger). Shoes can be stored in clear tubs, hanging storage or shoe racks. When deciding on what storage supplies are needed, think stackable and clear. Rotate your clothes through the seasons and realistically go through everything and donate anything you haven't worn over the last year. You may be surprised to find that you could pass items along to another deserving soul. Another simple trick is to make sure you put items away when you are done using/wearing them. Good luck - LT
