I have very thick fingers, and they have been that way for as long as I can remember, but now, they've gotten REALLY irrating and embarrasing. I know that you can't actually MAKE them skinnier, so Is their a certain nail polish I'll have to wear to make them appear skinnier?

What can I do to atleast make them LOOK and appear skinnier.

  1. I am slightly biased in this respect because I completely abhor fake nails - they look like bear claws. But try a lighter shade of nail polish, nude, light pink or white and grow out your nails a bit ... Or use SHORT fake nails. Trust me, long fake nails look 50 times more disgusting than stubby fingers.

  2. First of all, the worst thing to do is feel self-conscious about your fingers.  No one is perfect, and in feeling this way it will taint how you think everyone is looking at you.  Think about it--wear an awesome outfit, or have your hair done real stylish, and your hands will be the last thing anyone looks at.

Okay--that being said--I think wearing nail polish is a big risk, b/c you don't want to draw more attention to your hands than is necessary.  So what I would do is get a french manicure--very classy and stylish, and I think b/c it's not a bright color it will not make your fingers stand out and therefore look even bigger!

Good luck, and remember--you rock!  And so do your hands!

  3. Grow out your finger nails, or wear fake ones if you aren't able to grow them out. The added length will give the illusion of length.

If you you paint them with stripes that will help too

  4. Maybe invest in getting some acrylic nails done. They look really nice and will lengthen your finges :)

  5. the best way to achieve a slimmer look is with a natural french or american manicure.

grow your own nails out a few millimeters past your fingertips, or have moderate-length acrylics applied at the salon. when getting acrylics though, have them ROUNDED or OVAL, and not SQUARED. square tips make fingers look shorter and stubbier.

with either natural or acrylic nails, have a french/american manicure with a base color as close to your natural nail bed color as possible. when it comes to the white tip, make it NARROW. when the white section is too great in size, it draws too much attention, looks terribly unnatural and disproportional, and again, adds to the short & stubby look.

you've seen those women with french manicures where the white part is longer than the pink part. it just looks trashy and TOO fake.

the goal is to create the illusion of a longer nail bed (the pink part) by extending it past where it would naturally be, and painting the white part narrower and further away from your nail tip to extend the overall appearance of the finger.
