Question:

How can I make my air conditioning more effective?

I live in a one bedroom apartment with large single paned windows that face the sun most of the day. I'm on the second floor and only two sides of my apartment are up against another one. I think the lack of insulation and the windows are the biggest problem. My a/c runs almost constantly and barely keeps the temperature comfortable. I'm afraid to get my electric bill! What can I do?

  1. make sure your AC filter is clean and draw the shades in the day time

  2. First I would either tint the windows, get shades, put in a fan, close the slider or put in a mini split ductless air conditioning unit. They arent to expensive especially if you want to hang out in that area during the heat of the day or during the summer! http://socialwhit.com/offers/comfort is a good free place to ask questions about it

    Why is my heart broken?

  3. You could put thick drapes or insulating plastic type drapes up.  Close off any door in your apartment that you are not using @ the time.

  4. yep, he's right! CLEAN the AC filter,

you said you lived on the 2nd floor... is there a third floor? if none, put some insulation on the ceiling, it'll absorb the heat from the roof... (like styro or paper egg trays, bamboo,  whatever goes in to your style)

and uh....try putting thick curtains on your window.... i hope i helped...(-.-)

  5. Get an oscillating floor fan to help circulate the cool air, put tinted window film in your window, and definately clean your air conditioner filter.
