I recently adopted two year old bearded dragon. When I got him I was informed that he was overweight and needed his diet watched.

He doesn't do much, not that they are supposed to anyway, but I would like to get him to be more active, even a little bit. All he does is lay on his branch, eat, poo, and back on his branch.

Is their a way I can get him to be more active? Or is their something I am doing wrong to cause him to be inactive?

  1. Get him outside on the grass in the sun....But do not take your eye off him because they are fast.

Get him warm and get him out and about.  I take my bearded to the grocery store with me....they love it.

Make sure he has vitamins too. Very important.~

  2. by a ZooMed 5.0 UV bulb; these are proven to increase activity. He might be low on energy from being overweight. Just give him some time, and he should warm up to his new environment.

  3. the main reason why any animal may be inactive is because he is too cold. what is the temp. at the basking aread of his cage? if its not between 95-110 degrees, thats probably why.

another possibilty is he is stressed because he may not feel like he has enough room.

although beardies are not very active when they are grown anyway. the bigger, the lazier.
