Question:

How can I make my cactus grow to it's full potential?

My mother left him outside in the rain for several weeks. And I just brought him back inside, but he has gone rather soft, and is dripping wet.

Also is it wise to put him in front of the heater to dry off?

  1. The only thing you can do is keep it dry and wait and see, if root rot has set in all might already be lost. Don't put him in front of the heater, just let him dry out and stay dry till hopefully the squishyness has gone. Good luck...

P.S. I just have to say in regards to the second answer, the very last thing you want to do is disturb the roots with the cactus in this condition. If the cactus is soft the roots are softer. You could cause more damage and make it even harder for it to come back. Do not repot it untill your sure it's back to normal.

  2. do not put it in front of the heater, but it does need to dry out.  it may be best to re-pot it if you know how.  it does well pot bound.  they do best if kept dry and not over watered.  you could put it in some sunlight to dry faster but generally, they should not be in much sun.
