Question:

How can I make my clothes last longer/look nicer longer?

I am sick of spending money on clothes and having them fade or pill or stretch all too quickly.

I need tips. I'm using cheap detergent and softener, is that the problem? Is softener hurting the fabric? I don't like having rough clothes though, so I would like some softener.

I went out and bought some good wooden hangers, but I have so many clothes that some are going to have to use wire/plastic. Do hangers really matter?

Any tips, any tips at all?

  1. Yes, hangers matter.  The wire ones can mark your clothing.  I like wood as well, but a few years ago I replaced virtually all of my hangers with plastic.  They are thicker, but that is ok because the clothes do need to breathe a little bit.

Normally I hang my clothes (except for jeans and a few occasionally exceptions) to dry on plastic hangers somewhere in my bedroom doorway.

By the way-for suits the wooden hangers are the best-they are the sturdiest and until they find a good replacement suit hanger, I am sticking with them.

    Hope this helps.

    Good luck.

  2. I think this site pretty much answers all your questions and then some I know I learned from it anyway check it out http://closetenvironmentalist.com/2007/0...

  3. try using charlie's  soap(its a detergent)  google it and it actually works out a lot cheaper than the cheapie stuff at the supermarket. try not to wash to often, like jeans don't need to be washed everytime you wear them. unless of course your job is like with mud or something, then they won't last too long without being washed but you get the idea. The dryer is also killer on clothing, especially the heat. Try drying on a lower setting and wash clothes in cold water

  4. dont put them in the dryer...air dry your clothes by hanging them outside
