ok, I have a computer, and ever since day one, while the computer is busy under any kind of load, like watching videos or the like, the hard drive ramps up and starts spinning all loud. I really hate that noise...is there some kind of setting that will make that stop? Or is this just something that I have to deal with...2.80GHZ, 2048 MB Ram, Vista SP1, HP brand...oh and its not the CD player either, it makes a similar noise, but this is inside from the hard drive. Thanks.

  1. Are you sure it is the hard drive and not the CPU fan?  Hard drives do not normally make any kind of noise (or very little) whether or not under a load whereas a cooling fan will change speeds and will definitely spin faster and get louder under a load.  Also check to make sure that none of the vents are blocked and that the fan itself is not covered with dust.

  2. i believe that the fan coming on,it comes on when the computer is hot,,,

keep it cool...you should open the computer and dust inside and around the fan

    i done it

  3. Noises caused by following elements of ur PC.

Cooling Fans, Hard Disk, CD/DVD drives.

Keep them clean and under regular observation. Replace defactive parts.

  4. most quality after market fans are bigger and run at a slower rpms. You will get a decrease in noise and possible a little power savings.  if this option is not possible look to water cooling.  top notch cooling without any noise but tons of danger if you spring a leak

  5. it is most likely the fan all computers do it, but if its really bad you should think about asking someone like geeksquad what to do about it if you can. or just look into buying a different computer. It seems like a good computer from what you're saying about it but just have a proffesional look at it if its bugging you that badly
