How can I make my dog stop shedding so much?

She sheds really bad, I buy speacial food for her that they said would work at the pet store, and I give her baths in shampoo that says it should help, BUT it really bad my couches and everything are covered all the time, all I do is clean dog hair its gross, I love her so much and im sure it irritates her as well.... any ideas???

All dogs shed .  Some more than others.  You just have to keep brushing the hair off the dog daily.  Sorry

there are a few things you can do:

1) buy her some omega-3 powder and put it in her food. you can get it at your vet's office

2) go to your pet store and buy a brush for her. brush her everyday and it should get most of the excess fur off.

it's shedding season. you gotta hang in there and just keep vacuuming and brushing her. (:

Yeah... shedding happens.  Keep brushing!  And in 6 months, it'll happen again... and again... and again.

...why does a company that writes self-help books make dog food?  I'm not sure I would trust whoever told you about that food.

my min pin sheads all the time but i bought her a all orgnaic shampoo at petoc and it is made of oats, it gives there skin minerials. the reasion she sheads is becaus her skin is dryed out and irritated, another thing you could is put fish oil from sardeanes (caned) into her food and the oils in the can will help her produce her one oils but just the right amount and never to much.

Get a good brush.  Try a shedding blade -- this thing works wonders on my dogs.  Brush her at least twice a week.

You shouldn't bathe her too much... rinse her off if you have to, but shampooing often will irritate her skin.

You can give her fish oil supplements daily, they should help some too.  You can get the same fish oil pills that humans take, located in the vitamin section at the grocery store.

And what food exactly did the pet store people recommend?  I've found that they're NOT always right....  Even veterinarians recommend Hills Science Diet, which has NO quality meat sources, corn and other grains up the wazoo, and -- gasp -- sawdust.  Point being, don't always listen to the sales associate.

if you groom her maybe it will shed LESS

Get a furminator! And use it three times a week. It doesn't "stop" shedding. But it removes loose hair in the dog's undercoat which sheds the most. So the hair won't end up as much on your couches and stuff.

Have a golden retriever foster and the amount of hair on my floor has dramatically decreased.

edit: Stop using whatever food the pet store told you to get. They are salesman not nutritionist! Get a good quality food like canidae, solid gold, nature's variety, etc.

EDIT: Chicken soup is ok. My dogs had very loose stool on it though.
