Question:

How can I make my hamster less jumpy??

My hamster knows my voice now and she knows that I'm the one who feeds her. Whenever she sees me near her cage she runs over to the cage door because she thinks that I'll open it and feed her "dinner"...

I have only been trying to handle her during the evening times when she is already awake...

she'll eat treats straight out of my hand, but she won't let me hold her. She's fine being lifted out of her cage in her exercise ball, and fine being put back, but whenever I try to hold her, she turns into a little jumping bean and flip flops all over the place...

help!!!

  1. i think he just a jumpy brand

  2. You can't, it is in their nature! While you are home, watching tv or whatever, let it run around in your living room in it's ball, so it burns energy. I don't know much about hamsters, since AI don't have one =((

  3. kick it...

  4. Your hamster sound exactly like mine.

Maybe you could wake her up in the day when she is less awake and therefore less jumpy (mine wakes up in the day anyway).

If you don't want to do this because you want to let her sleep, when holding her in your hand place your other hand over the top to stop her jumping. Then she will realize not to jump around so much, also when she doesn't jump give her a treat for being a good little hammy.

What also helps is... if she is facing towards you she is a lot less likely to jump than if she is facing out into the open.

She should calm down with age.

  5. give him whiskey

  6. Honestly, you truly can't. It's their nature. : (

  7. make him eat a lot, buy him a ball for him or her to walk, and let her walk for a really long time, and dat should  do it

also i gave my hamster carrots, and after he ate, he felt asleep really fast, trust me

  8. Give her hamster sleeping pills.

  9. if you want to make her less jumpy, then buy her a run about ball and let her run in it for about 20-30 mins with your super vision. then she'll be tried and just want to lay somewhere so why not in your arms?

  10. use your old microwvae as a cage for it... if it gets jumpy turn it on for 10 sec... repeat if needed....

  11. she probably jumps all over the place because she is nervous.

it makes hamsters nervous when you squeeze them or close your hands around them so they cannot get out. it may sound crazy, but it is actually better to hold them on an open palm. sit on the floor until you are more comfortable handling her so that if she leaps off your hand, she wont fall very far.

one thing my hamster loves is when i put her in the bathtub (without water, of course). you just cover the bottom in an old towel to make it easier on her feet, put a whole bunch of her toys in there, and watch her go wild! this will make it easier for you to access her and for her to get more used to your hands being close to her. at first, hold her over the bathtub, but you can slowly lift her farther away from it. also, hold her closer to your chest because this makes them feel more secure.

    hope this helped!

    good luck!

  12. Well, I have two stray cats, they eat out of my hand, but they won't let me hold them. The animals are just defensive, and not used to humans. Just let your hamster get more used to you

  13. What i've always done with my hamsters is to sit in the bath (when it's empty) and let the hamster run around and also handle it in there too, that way it can't escape and it gets used to being around you. Once they get used to you they won't flip around so much and as they get older they calm down a bit.

  14. Duct tape its legs together.
