Question:

How can I make my high school years go by faster, while preparing for university and my life?

I am 15 years old. I will be in grade 10 this September. I can't get through high school fast enough. I want so badly to just go to university, and start my life. I don't really have an idea on what I want to do with my life, because I really lack knowledge in the whole working thing. I know for a fact I want to work in an office/office building, and I would like to work in the media industry. If anyone can list some well paying jobs, some things I can do to prepare myself through high school, and some ways to make it go by faster, please let me know. Thank you.

  1. High school goes by so fast.If you want to try to get out faster you can try to get enough credits so you can graduate  in 11th grade.

Do research and stuff, find out what you need to graduate sooner if thats what you want.

  2. Simple... look up local media corporations and see if they are hiring volunteers. Become a volunteer somewhere that interests you, and your high school year will go by a lot quicker. Also, take additional courses that would help you with your dream - whatever that may be, as "working in an office/office building in the media industry" is very vague. Volunteer, expand your interests, learn more about the industry, and before you know it, you'll be applying for university. Just remember, don't close all the other doors yet. There are plenty of non-media related jobs that may suit your dreams/desires.

  3. You can start taking college courses along with your high school courses, depending on your abilities of a student of course. You can get a part-time job. The kinds of jobs that you'll be able to get as a high school student won't pay much and won't be very interesting, but they'll be a good experience for you. One other option you may want to look at is getting your GED. After you get your GED, you can enroll in community college full-time and then, if you wish and do well, you can transfer to any university you want even top schools. This option might be good for you if you are reasonably intelligent, but otherwise bored in your high school classes and having trouble with the social environment of high school. Talk to your parents, school advisor (if he or she is not a useless moron like many are) and do a little research into the sorts of programs available to you.

  4. Grade 10 is actually when you start to speed up. Depending on your school district/board of education, you will probably have a Careers course in Grade 10. Careers teaches you how to channel your interests into jobs that are beneficial.

The media industry (in an office setting) can include commercial companies (the ones that design/broadcast commercials), music industry (DJ-ing, recording artist, etc), journalism (newspapers, magazines, etc), publishing industry (publishing books, and stuff like that). However, there's a lot more, since the media incorporates a variety of elements. Try and narrow down your interests so you can get a desirable job.

I'm not really sure what can prepare you, since I had little interest in this field, but Careers will help you prepare. You can also google up "how to be a ____" and some sites will turn out to be really good.

Best way to have the years "go by faster" is not to think about your anticipation for university. After all, we all want to go to university, but just hang out with friends, study hard and pay attention in all your classes. Time passes by quickly when your mind is occupied.

Also, get some part-time jobs, 'cause that would look excellent on your applications (when they come in grade 12).

  5. Kudos to you for thinking this way .    If your grades in HS is good, you may talk to your counselor/adviser in HS , ( and your parents) that you simultaneously enroll in some college courses while you're still in HS.  There are programs and classes that you can take which will count both for your HS's graduation requirments, as well as for college credits that you can use later on.

    so first:

talk to you parents about your intention

then talk to your HS's counselor, (they probably want to make sure you can handle both the HS's work and the college if you are goign to do this.... this means that you better have close to a 4.0 GPA ...)

finally, goto the college (2 year, not 4 year) and talk to their advisers...  you might watn to have your paernts with you.   They can tell you what classes are right for you at that time.

    good luck
