Question:

How can I make my home smell nice?

I've got guests coming this weekend and want to make sure my home smells yummy for them. I'm not keen on the really harsh 'air freshener' type smells - they irritate mine & my partners noses. I would love it if my home smelled like my fabric conditioner or detergent - how can I do that?? I already have washing drying but its not strong enough...

Any good tips or ideas??

  1. Bath and body plug ins.  They come in great scents--about 30 different scents.  I use caramel and the creamy nutmeg plugins--I always get compliments.  They also have a scent called clean linen.  +++

  2. If you like the scent of you laundry detergent or fabric softner, mix some of that in water and put it ot simmer on the stove in a pot. I do this all the time with my laundry detergent and it makes my house smell so good. My favorite is Tide Simple Pleasures Lavender & Vanilla. 2D

  3. Buy a bunch of stargazer Lillie's( pink ones) or the cream scented Lillie's they last longer than any spray

  4. Potpourri. It's gives of a beautiful cent

Go for citrus or lavender. the perfect welcoming sent!

if you haven't got time just get some flowers or/and citrus peel (I'd go for lemons. limes and oranges) and place them in a bowl.

  5. Something that always smells wonderful is fresh lavender.  Try going to pick some (if there is any near where you are) and putting out vases full of it in the living room.

Otherwise, I'm sure you could buy some at any flower shop.

  6. i bought a candle warmer and use that instead of lighting candles , #1 because i have a curious 3 year old and #2 because it distributes the smell of the candle throughout the entire house.

  7. I use glade plug ins. The lavendar or clean linen scent are not too strong. I get headaches from strong smells, but these ones do not bother me at all.

  8. i find bold washing powder the new infusions ones makes the house smell really nice, ive tried loads of air freshners and not found any very effective however i got one of those airwick automatic ones this week that sprays out every so many minutes and it smells very nice, not too air freshner-y magnolia and something i think the pink one, they are on half price in asda

  9. yankee candle company they make the most amazing candles your whole house will smell yummy my favorite ones are

    clean cotton

warm sugar cookie (seriously smells like grandma is baking sugar cookies

home sweet home ( apple and cinnamon scent with spices)

vanilla cupcake ( great I just baked for hours smell)

    cucumber melon

and they smell through the whole candle as you burn it unlike some that smell for 5 minutes

  10. XD tRY ANTIpur!

  11. frebreeze is nice. or you can use extra fabric softener on your linens. spray the frebreeze on your carpet then vacuum. also put some fabric softener sheets  in the closets and in the linen closet and under couch cushions

  12. Candels would be best but also open all windows (maybe doors 2) to let the bad air out. Hope that helps =)

  13. maybe yuo just have to have some plants/flowers that has pleasant smell.

    thats verry natural

  14. Clean regularly and use a carpet cleaner

  15. try some nice scented candles or potpourri.

  16. Bake bread, or cakes, everyone must love the smell of fresh baking.  Or spray fabreeze on the sofas, its discreet, but nice smelling.  Or, at my mums if you go round on a saturday it all smells like furniture polish, its really nice.  You can try that.

  17. Clean everything and light some candles.

  18. burn incense that wot i do it also relaxes me.which i will be doin tonite when kids gone to bed.

  19. Put a wet wipe or a tumble dryer sheet behind each radiatior in each room - the smell is always there then and change them when each dries out.  Also spray perfume on a light bulb (make sure switched off first) then each time the light is on and warms up the smell is thrown around the room.

Also try putting a small pot of Bi carb in rooms such as kitchens and bathrooms to remove nasty odours that occur.

  20. I feel the same way as you. I do not use air freshners coz they leave a 'thick' smell. I bought a little round straw basket and filled it up with potpourri and placed it in the bathroom. I ventilate alot esp after cooking and I clean up grease so that the smell doesn't stay. Try potpourri, candles or other dry fragrant plants. For the detergent smell let you clothes dry inside with a window open.. that what I do sometimes.

  21. scented candles

or, get some fabric conditioner and put some around your house, the areas you want to make smell good

  22. I really like to sprinkle a little cinnamon on the corner of the carpet and then vacuum, starting with the cinnamon area. Makes the whole house smell like cinnamon. :)

  23. i Guess U Get Air Freshener and Buy A scented candle and just go to a hotel and just let ur house soke up all the freshness or just do the loundrey and clean up do the dishes

  24. OMG Get Febreeze! Just get the normal kind. It smells wonderful, is soft on the nose and is just all around great. Do not get a store brand version because it won't work and will just leave your house smelling like some cheap brand of soap. My brother and his ex-wife were heavy smokers, bad enough to turn curtains and other linens in the house yellow. They began using Febreeze (how I first found out about it) and in no time you couldn't tell they had ever smoked in the house at all. It got rid of animal smells and everything else in my home and made it smells wonderful. It really does work extremely well!

  25. Bicarb of soda on the carpets before you hoover. Maybe a gentle wipe with citronella solution on woodwork? I hate air fresheners but I do use Febreez. Sometimes I put a drop or two of a nise essential oil on the radiators. Steam ironing gives a nice smell.

  26. Mop your floors with lemon scented cleaner.

    Wipe down surfaces with Lysol.

    Open the windows.

    Light scented candles.

Vacuum - it can eliminate dust, which has a gross smell.

  27. There is an absorlute fab air freshner out by GLADE called clean linen, it isn't like a harsh freshner it does actually make your home smell like freshly laundered clothes. or you could put some soap powered or fabric conditioner into a bowl with hot water and just wash down your skirting boards and doors frames (even though they may not need doing) that too gives your home a lovely smell.

  28. put dryer sheets in your air vents, or just bake some cookies just before they arrive... by the time the odor goes, they will have become accustomed to the normal scent of your home

  29. The best, natural smell, is fresh baked cookies or bread.  Or anything that you think is really yummy that you can make, I'm sure your guests will enjoy it too.

  30. oil burners the smell lingers all day .put one at the bottom of stairs .it travels up if you go up and down if you go down .lufly

  31. Open the windows and let the foul air out.
