  1. Internet speed is based upon your ISP (internet service provider). Any software claiming to increase your speed is a gimmick. The only way to increase your downloading speed is to upgrade your broadband connection.

I will however suggest CCleaner, which is a freeware system optimization and privacy tool. It removes unused files from your system - allowing Windows to run faster and freeing up valuable hard disk space. It also cleans traces of your online activities such as your Internet history. CCleaner also fixes your registry. But the best part is that it's fast (normally taking less than a second to run) and contains NO Spyware or Adware.

  2. Close any P2P programs, kazza, etc. some anti-virus need to be off.

then go to dslreports.com look at tools and do some java based speed tests to a few locations near you, then compare to others near your zip code on your isp

then find tweak tests and you end up checking your 'recieve windows' for best setting, this is called RWIN on their test results. Some windows installs set Rwin wrong.  A little free utility DRtcp can reset RWIN, and then reboot and retest.  dslreports keeps a chart of your last 10 tests.

defrag your drive and make sure to check the HP site for any newer drivers for the laptop and get them added. [HP has custom windows for its laptops]

  3. Internet speed has nothing to do with your computer's speed. To make your internet faster, call your internet company and request a faster internet connection.

  4. Google Web Accelerator.

  5. If you had AT&T as your ISP, then I'm sure your internet will be alot faster.

  6. Check http://www.pc-optimizer-pro.com

With pc optimizer pro you can safely clean, repair and optimize your computer.

It will help improve your system performance without expensive hardware upgrades.

  7. Using a registry cleaner can clean up your computer and then make your computer faster,Why?the reason is that there may be some registry errors and remnant, corrupt files and temp files in your computer to cause "computer slow".

Every time you install and uninstall software on your computer and surfing online you create junk in the computer registry.over time, the registry can grow to enormous proportions, especially if the various programs you've installed do not do a good job of deleting and/or updating it's Registry entries. You need to scan and clean your computer with registry cleaner to make it fast.Good Registry Cleaner will improve your computer and Internet performance dramatically!

There are some comparison and review of TOP 5 registry cleaners.

You can download and scan your computer for free.

  8. You need to call your internet service provider and upgrade to a faster speed. You can only get what you pay for.

  9. There are quite a few ways to increase your internet speed.  You can use a faster ISP, but at 15, you may not be in control of that.  Of course professional ISPs offer T1, OC3 and OC9 lines, but for consumers you can use High Speed Cable Modems or slightly slower DSL lines.  DSL requires a phone line, and Cable modems require coaxial cable.  They cost roughly the same, but DSL is available in more areas than Cable Modems.

You can also clear your browsers cache, internet files and cookies on a regular basis.  You can use a faster web browser.  Most people use Microsoft Internet Explorer, since it comes with Windows and Windows is the most popular Operating System.  Firefox is faster than Internet Explorer and takes less time to load, because it's a smaller file.  It also contains a button to automatically clear your cache, history and cookies.

There are some programs that promise to increase web speed, but most don't work.  Most only automate the process of emptying the cache, and preload web browsers, so they load quicker.  Others will actually capture lager caches, so you're not actually viewing the real web, but previously downloaded websites, that you commonly view.  This is fine for some pages, but for others that contain dynamic information that constantly changes, they don't work very well.

Sometimes Viruses, Trojens, Worms, Spyware and Adware is loaded on your system and seriously slows down your web browser.  You can use free programs like AVG to detect and remove viruses, trojens and worms.  You can use Spybot to remove Spyware, and you can use Ad-Aware to remove adware.  All of those programs are free and can be downloaded from www.download.com  They are all very simple to download, install and opperate.  Norton Antivirus is also good, but it costs about $40 a year.

You can also try defraging your harddrive, but that's very time consuming, and it may not drastically improve the speed of your Internet Connection.  It may make file transfer a little better and may also clear-up space on your harddrive.  You can use Disk Defragmenter, which is found under System Tools, in the Accessories tab of your Start Menu in Windows.

One last option is to install more RAM in your laptop.  RAM is a long computer chip that installs like a cartriage does into a game system.  It's fairly inexpensive and it can greatly increase system performance.  You can either install it yourself, or pay someone to install it for you.  It's actually a really easy upgrade.  It will improve the speed of all your programs, not just your web browser.

The previous poster's suggestion of closing any other Internet programs such as an Instant Messenger, bittorrent, Kazaa or Limewire will also help.  The less internet applications you have open, the faster your connection will be.  You wont be taxing your system resources, and you wont be using as much of your ISP's speed for other resources, and will be able to use more of it to surf the web.

    Best of luck.  :-)
