  1. A respectful time-out involves both parties.

If you can feel the agitation rising (yours or his), try to catch it before it turns to raised voices and rudeness: "Let's take a few minutes.." then stay in seperate rooms and calm down. Also let him know that he can ask for a few minutes if he feels the need. He could use the same words ("Let's take a few minutes") It helps to always use the same amount of time (5 min.?), and use a timer that beeps so you don't have to negotiate when one or both is agitated.

Giving respect is the best way to get it, and might unlock the power battle.

  2. I suggest you not watch him any longer until you do some research on ADDED.  You obviously don't know much about this disorder and since you don't and haven't bothered to take the time to do research I don't feel he owes you any respect.

  3. Have you tried putting him in time out?  I would put him in time out and tell him that his time in time out does not start until he is quite.  Let him yell and don't start his time until he is quite.  Only keep him in time out for ten minutes that is what I do with my little sister who has adhd too.  She yells and screems at me for a while and then when she calms down she sits in time out and since she is twelve after twelve minutes I call her out of it and ask her what she did wrong and she will tell me and then I will tell her not to do it again. (I take care of my sisters and my son)
