Question:

How can I make my own version of Newman's Own Southwest Dressing?

I know that this particular dressing is ONLY made for distribution by McDonalds for their salads, but I'd like to try and make my own at home. Unfortunately, I don't know where to start. Does anyone know of a recipe that would be reasonably close in flavor that I could make?

  1. I looked up the salad dressing and found at Epicurious.com several substitute recipes.  I also took a look at the ingrediants for this dressing and saw that there is a combination of ingrediants that also include egg yolks.  I'm thinking that you might want to take a look at one of the substitutes and play with the recipe.  You can also google Paul Newman's Southwest Dressing Recipe.

  2. Here is a really decent copycat recipe for it:

        * 2 tablespoons fat free ranch dressing

        * 1 tablespoon nonfat sour cream

        * 1/4 teaspoon apple cider vinegar

        * 1/4 teaspoon lime juice

        * 1/4 teaspoon chili powder

        * 1 dash onion powder

        * 1 dash garlic powder

        * 1 dash cumin

    This amount is perfect for a single salad....but you can double/triple/quadruple (etcetera) it to make a jar full.  :)
