  1. Yikes.  Be warned, a glossy finish will show every little bump and imperfection in your wall.  Not forgiving at all.

Now, if you are still in the mood for this type of finish:

    1)  Clean up as many imperfections in the walls as you can.  Sand if needed, fill holes, etc.

    2)  Clean the walls.  Wash with a TSP (Tri-Sodium Phosphate) solution, rinse well.

    3) Any bare areas (from sanding) should be spot primed with a good wallboard primer.

    4)  Paint with a good acrylic latex paint.  If you need more than one coat, let it dry at least 24 hours before applying the next coat.  This will be longer than the directions indicate, but you will get much better coverage out of your next coat.  Don't get in a hurry.

    5) After you are satisfied with the paint, you can get the plasticy (I made up that word) look by coating with a waterborne polyurethane.  Wait at least 24 hours after your last coat of paint but not more than 48 hours.  If you let the paint cure too long, the poly will not bond well to the glossy surface.  The waterborne product will dry clear and will not yellow over time like the old oil based polys.

  2. Sand the walls before you start painting to make sure they're absolutely smooth.  There's really nothing you can add to the paint to make it shinier, but surface preparation is critical to a good paint job.

  3. Make the walls smooth. Then you can use Flotrol addative and several coats.
