How can I make my room look goth if...?

I am not allowed to paint it black, the wall color has to match my purple carpet, and I most likely can not have anything too scary in my room, because my mom has to approve it, Curtins, shelves, bedding, or a canopy are no. Please tell me some items, and wall decor, and a color for my wall (remember, my mom said no to black)

  2. Listen, if you are going to be someone's wife one day, you have got to come up with better decorating schemes.  Purple carpet is okay when you are a teen, but when you are a grown up wife... Please!  Okay, would your mom go for black and white polka dot or zebra stripe sheets that are black and white?   They have lots of things like that on the PB teen website.  If she would go for these things, the best color for the walls would be a neutral color- go for the opposite- go for white. Shock her for once.  This PB site also has loads of stuff in purple.  Purple goes with green and also with yellow, but not too dark of a green, sort of sage. You have to remember that this room is part of your mom's house, and that really truly it is her room that she lets you use and call "your room" while you live there until you leave, so she probably doesn't want wild colors on her walls.

  3. Well you could paint your room dark purple!!Generally use dark colors!!

I painted my room dark purple, and some parts with black(like the part around my door or closet and a few others)!!II also have dark red curtains and a few other things in dark red!!

    Just be creative!;)

  4. There are other ways to cover a wall.Material (fabric),wrapping paper, posters scarves and the list goes on. Then black spray paint on accent items around the room, black curtains, black pillows and whatever else you want.

  5.   if you really were goth, you would know the answer to this.  like, i can think of a zillion ways to make a room goth without using the color black at all.

goths do not OWN black.  we dont HAVE to have scary things.  you need to take a bit and LEARN what goth really is, rather than having to come on yahoo answers and ask.

  6. Hi, what a fun project, and who says purple's just for kids?  Close cousin, plum is one of the hottest colors out there.  When I think Goth, I think of Decoratus Absurdum, a style that incorporates a bit of humor and often, the macabre.  People who enjoy this style of decorating often say that it keeps their interest longer, that the bit of tension makes it interesting in ways that "safer" decor does not.

D.A. staples often include skulls, anatomy charts, taxidermy, toys, etc. and the resulting look is often very sophisticated (even if a bit dark).  I agree that zebra and/or leopard might also help to achieve that look.  You can buy skulls on Ebay, including a very clear/crystal one (really, some sort of plastic) that looks pretty darn cool.

Art stores like Blick's (check them out online) also have a number of cool options (artist hand models, anatomy figures, etc.)

And have your mom email me, and I'll send her a Flickr set of rooms with black, lacquer paint.  That look can be incredible when done well.

Check out Strangeclosets.com and DecoratusAbsurdum.com for more information.

  7. I'm an artist and a goth, any shade of purple will be good as long as its not too light, as for the walls band posters are always good.

P.S. you shold cover the curtains with some dark semitranparent fabric this will make sure the rooms always sort of gloomy.

  8. Another solution would be to add a dominate light fixture to your ceiling that would set the tone for the room. This way you wouldn't have to make the curtains, bedding, and shelves speak so loudly. You can have them accent the theme set by the color scheme you've chosen, along with the lighting fixture.

You may want to add a contemporary chandelier that will help accentuate the gothic look without being so loud. Check some out here

You may find a nice compromise here that will suit both your mother and you!
