  1. I'm a sprinter myself and what helps me is when starting in blocks you need to explode out of them and stay low, after that you need to make sure you use your arms by pumping them, and make  sure your not having them cross your body because then you'll be using more energy then needed, also running on the ball of your foot/toes, works well for me when I'm in my spikes. and make sure you have a nice stride and your getting everything out of it. and dont listen to the guy that says runn down a hill, doing that can hurt your knees, and could possibly cause an injury, but you could find a hill and sprint up it we do that at practice, and then walk slowly down, that way it helps with indurance so you dont die near the end of the race.

  2. You need to be doing drills that focus on a quicker foot turnover rate.

  3. Everyone has a trick or two that they use to convince themselves to run faster in an event.  I always used to picture something at the end that I wanted and something behind me that I wanted to get away.

-Also you can't make yourself run faster if your not faster.  Resistance training is really good for convincing your body to run at a higher lever.  Running up hill, running with a sled, a parachute, even running in the pool(fun btw).

-And you should do like the other poster said run down hill, the body has a way of getting used to motion and being able to mimic motion when its done a lot. While running down hill you are making your body run way faster than it could do on a flat surface and your legs and arms can get used to this speed.  This is very dangerous though, do not sprint as fast as you can. Falling is not fun.

gfuzat and i pretty much broke down what you need to know about running before you get faster.

a tip i can give from personal experience is this....

*before you read this know that this tip is not a workout. it's more of a self experiment.

    1) take a short distance... no more than 100m. just enough to gradually build up your speed

    here's the corny part:

think of yourself as a stick shift car. you are gradually becoming faster and faster and you want to see how quickly you can get into 5th gear and even if you could possibly get into 6th gear.

    2) when you think your going as fast as you can, become conscious of your feet and legs as you take each step

    3) then try and make them go faster for as long as you can. it shouldnt be more than 3-5 seconds after you went a little faster. gradually come to a stop (corny part alert) nd visualize yourself winning the olympics.

*i recommend that no one be on the track besides you if you decide to raise your fists in the air and yell. lol.

do this every once in a while. its fun and you'll find that you can usually push yourself faster. DONT DO THIS DURING A RACE. during a race... straining to go faster will make you slower. only do this during practice or your free time.

  5. try find a hill with a slight incline and sprint down it then jogg back up it!
