  1. The soap thing is good once. If you use it often, it clogs the pores of your plants.

Diatamacous earth is good. But so is Natural Pyrethrin. Look at www.simplyhydroponics.com under pest control.

  2. I think just about anything that will kill a bug will also harm your plants if you spray the bugs while they are on the plants.  But there are environmentally safe options for killing bugs that are easy and can be done at home.

One that I am a fan of:

"To kill mosquitos/cockroaches easily, just fill a clean spray-bottle with water and a squeeze of dish detergent, then shake. Spray the bugs, this will quickly kill them. This is very inexpensive, and environmentaly safe."

Another good environmentally-safe garden tip is to use white vinegar to kill weeds.  Just be careful to only pour it on your weeds and not your other plants!

  3. Get some diotomacious (sp?) earth.

What it is is diatoms (diatoms = single celled plant-like organisms; see wikipedia for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diatom ).They come from the ocean. When they die they turn into a substance similar to microscopic glass.

What you do it take the diotomaceous earth and you can sprinkle it around the garden and you can mix it with water in a spray bottle and spray it on your plants then.

When slugs and other insects crawl over it or ingests it, it basically slices them all up and they die. Plus is harmless to you and it's OK if it gets loose into the environment via run off or what not. Most garden centers should have it or at least be able to get it. If not, I've found it online before, all you have to do is look for it.

Something else you can use is citronella essential oil. If you dilute it in water you can spray it all around and it will keep them at bay. It works for most bugs b/c they just don't like the citronella, but it may not work for all bugs. You do have to cut the essential oil though it could cause brown spots to form on your plants if not done properly.

  4. You can buy it for cheap from

    http://www.amazon.com/gp/search?ie=UTF8&...

    Hope this helps

    Good luck!
