Question:

How can I make people think of me as kind, respectable and dignified?

This may sound obvious, but I'm struggling with it.

People think of me as overly honest with a mean streak, comical, and a bit slow (ie, not witty in conversation), and unorthodox. They say I wear my heart on my sleeve.

How can I change this?

I want people to look up to me.

I want people to respect and admire me.

  1. Punch them in the face until they see things your way.

  2. Become an actor! Make believe you are what you want to be and act the part to success. But remember, you might then ‘fool all people for some time, some people for all time, but not all people for all time’!

What you really are shows in your behaviour over time. If people think of you as you say they do, it’s what you’ve displayed uptil now. Change yourself, to change their opinions of you. If your actions are consistently kind, respectable and dignified, people may be suspicious at first, but they will gradually come to accept that these are indeed your enduring personality traits. Essentially, respect, admiration, etc has to be earned. It needs hard work - there’s no magic mantra for it.

  3. start acting like the things u want 2 be ... start acting kind .... respectfull .... and dignified ... and ppl will think of u so :)

  4. You must identify the 'critical point' where your mean streak becomes a problem.  After identifying this one moment in time where you make the choice (and it is a choice) to be mean to someone, you can slowly start to notice it every time and withold that mean thought.

Wearing your heart on your sleeve is easy, don't show your emotion (another critical point) - you don't have to be a vulcan or anything but you can restrain yourself with careful thought.

In regard to your wit in conversation, I'd suggest reading collections of monologues (Stanley Holloway et al) or books of humourous quotes or collections from comedy writers (Alan Coren for me).  Reading this kind of thing can swing your mindset away from being 'dull' - eventually you may well be able to think in this way, speak in this way.  Learn the difference between satire, irony, mockery and sarcasm - they are great social tools for comedy (even though mockery can backfire {mean streak alert}) and try to expand your vocabulary by learning one or more new words a day.

You can be kind, respectable and dignified with time and effort.

    Ape.

  5. Respect is earned cannot be demanded. So do such things which will peoples hearts and automatically they will look upon u.Do helpful acts be humble shun any EGO in u.Be positive in thinking

  6. By being just that.  Kind, respectable and dignified.  There is nothing wrong with wearing your heart on your sleeve.  I wear mine on my sleeve.  People look up to me for that because most people dont wear there heart on there sleeves any more.  God bless.

  7. maybe it's how you play with words.. if ever, in a conversation, try not to talk much, give others some air time as well. if they see you respecting them, they'll respect you too.
