  1. There are probably places that make all kinds of fake (plastic) food--like plastic sushi.  You just have to do a search for them.  However, if you want to yourself to turn real food into preserved food, try dipping them in silicon (craft shops often sell it to preserve roses and other flowers in), or sealing them in epoxy (will look like an plastic ice cube with food inside)--it's smelly so you'll have to do it outside.  I have no idea if it'll stop the food from rotting inside though.

  2. fake food that looks realistic is usually made using wax, or paraffin wax. there are both transparent and opaque waxes you can use. you melt these down over a double boiler and add powder colourings. the consistency of this wax changes as the temperature of it cools. wax thats just melted will be runny (good for pouring into a mold), and when its a bit cooler it will be pastey and thick(for piping to imitate frosting or cream) or even cooler untill it becomes a dough that can be shaped using the hands. equipment such as bowls, extruders, pastry bags, and molds etc are needed... also alot of imagination!!

the japanese are masters of making wax food!!

  3. print out pictures of the food and set them up on stands? i don't know.

  4. try paper mache to recreate the "food" .. many restaurants do that with great likeness to the real food
