Question:

How can I make sure cockroaches don't "follow" me to my new home?

As a college student, I lived in an area of town that had a lot of cockroaches (disgusting, I know) but I kept my apartment spotless and invested in some roach sprays and other devices. I rarely had any inside my apartment, but every now and then one or two got in. I am now moving to a city where I have never even seen a cockroach, so I wanted to make sure I don't accidentally bring any with me. Does anyone have any ideas? Obviously I cannot pack and move stuff in the same day, so boxes just sitting there will be like a Welcome mat for roaches. Any advice would be great!

Thanks!

  1. Don't set boxes on the floor and make sure both ends of the boxes are sealed.  Make sure everything you put in a box is clean, even your laundry.

Throw away any open box of food, unless it has always had a tight seal on it.  If your furniture has any holes in it (mattress, sofa) leave them behind.  I know that may get expensive but they can lay eggs in a ripped mattress or a sofa.  If both are clean and always have been then they should be okay.

Don't bring microwaves or other heated small appliances, they can hide in there forever.

When you leave, until the next day, set off a couple bug bombs, to kill any that are lurking.  Make sure that whatever you leave behind cannot be harmed by the bombs and everything will be fine.

I know they are disgusting and pain in the butt, but these tips should help

    Good Luck

  2. You could also set off a couple of the insecticide bombs a day or two before you begin packing up at the old place. This may take away any chance of a stowaway!

Good Luck in the new city!  ;-)
