Question:

How can I make the cat NOT bite me?

Okay, I have a siamese cat. She will be a year old around Halloween. Spayed, also declawed in the front. She is VERY playful and will play with toys for long periods of time.

But she is insane; she attacks me, when I am minding my own business. If I sit down to read a book, she will come over, bite my hand and run away. My vet recommended using a squirt bottle, but she now will wait until I am distracted or have put the bottle down and then will run and bite me. Also, she likes water, so this is not effective (if someone comes to visit and leaves the toilet seat up, she will jump in and out of the toilet and splash around.....she plays in water).

Short of putting her down, I don't know what to do. She is obviously insane. Any ideas? All of my previous cats have always been friendly.

  1. leave the poor animal alone.......perhaps it knows/senses who you really ARE.........

  2. The water bottle would probably do the trick but just like with children, consistency is the key. Even though your cat likes water, liking water and being squirted in the nose/eyes with water is different. You can also get a clicker and click and spray at same time. Later on you should just be able to click because your cat will associate this with being sprayed.

Siamese are known for inbreeding. This along with being removed from its mamma too soon are just 2 things that can cause this. Also, if the cat just doesn't have enough room that can contribute to this type of behavior.

I would talk to a vet/pet professional about it and if worse comes to worse, they may even know a person/family who would be glad to take it off your hands.

I am empathetic but I have to admit, she sounds like a Doll to me.

  3. Take her to a vet.

  4. try spraying her in the face.

    she won't like that.

or YELL as soon as she bites.

idk, she's still young... this might be her way of playing?

  5. Kill it.  Just kidding - if the cats do something that my mom wants them to stop, she holds them down by the neck and hisses at them, like their mom would, immediately after the occurence

  6. my kitten (7 months) is so soft but when she is in a playful mood she will chase me up he stairs and cling onto my ankles... if she hurts i turn around and say NO firmly

she soon gets the idea and plays more gentle

  7. sprayyy it with water everytime it bites you cats dont like water

  8. She may be using her mouth more often now because she doesn't have front claws.  That may just be her personality too...to be fiesty and all.  When she "attacks" try playing with her to get all that energy out.  You may consider getting her another cat friend to play with if you don't want her pestering you all the time.  However, it doesn't hurt to call a few vets to see if there  could be something wrong, but I doubt it.

  9. grab her by the neck so it hearts but not chokes her and say "no" very firmly if she bites you again keep doing it. be firm but not scary

  10. Everytime he bites you, kick him, at some point it will learn that, bite = kick in the nuts

    And that ain't animal cruelty

is showing the cat to not bite people

  11. If your cat ever bites you, I recommend hitting her on the nose. Not hard, but enough she gets the message. It's okay to be stern. If she tries to run away before you can do anything, try raising your voice. Animals can recognize when we are angry by our tone. If neither of these things work, find something that she hates instead of water, use that as punishment, and hope for the best. When she acting appropriately, reward her. Contact the vet again if you are still having problems. I hope this will help.

  12. Same With

Me my kitten is 6months just got spayed this morning but she is very crazy

but i wanna stop mines from doing that because

I dont want her to grow-up

then she will get stronger teeth

    but what you can do

is spray perfume or wear lotion she wont bite

right there lol im nopt really sure though..

Ummm also she might be mad because shes declawed

thats what alot of people say on here..

I dont have my little kitten declawed

though because she will get crazy!

i really cant handle a crazy kitten lol

she bites my brother though alot becuase he bugs her if anyone in your house bugs her it might get her mad..

Try Doing something about it tap her nose.......

And firmly say no she needs to understand what you tell her.!

  13. ***** bite her back

the cat will then learn her lesson

  14. I was going to suggest a spray bottle, but after reading your details, i am shocked that your cat likes to play in water!! :O Maybe you could try giving her more attention. Maybe while you are reading a book you could dangle some yarn in front of her at the same time so she thinks that you are paying more attention to her. (which you are but in your own way!!!) hope this helps!! : ) : )

  15. She isn't insane!  She just wants your attention!  She wants you to play with her!

  16. I have a cat that is the same way. When she goes to attack you should yell at her "no!" to startle her. You can also wack something on the ground like a rolled up newspaper. You have to do this consistently so that she knows that she is going to be annoyed if she bites.

With age she will most likely stop randomly running up to you and biting.

My cat likes to fake people out and act nice and then attack and bite people's wrists. You are best telling people who come in the door that they shouldn't touch your cat at all. This will avoid someone getting seriously bitten.

Lastly, I would recommend getting a second cat. Cat's (especially Siamese) love companionship and if she has someone to play with (other than your arm) she may stop this bad behavior all together.

  17. She just wants to PLAY. Some cats like to play rougher then other cats. So unless she breaking the skin she's just playing. She stalks you and when you don't expect it she pounces on you gives you a quick bit, and you probably jump and make a noise. What could be more fun? And I'm betting she'll run just far enough away so you can't get her.

Give her some time and she'll get tired of the game and mellow out.

    EDIT

Try mouthwash instead of water, but if she drawing blood she's crossed the line. Some cats become crazy after they are spayed or neutered. My mom's cat would attack and draw blood, tore up a screen door did a lot of damage before they put him down. So if she doesn't calm down soon I'd say you'd have to put her down, sorry, and yes I know I'm going to get a lot the thumbs down. If she had her front claws I put her out on a farm, with permission of course, but without claws she couldn't defend herself or hunt. I'd give her a month and if she doesn't get any better I'd put her down.

    Again sorry.

  18. Is she playing, or breaking skin?

My cat plays like this, and he is incredible. I love him lots! He used to be really mean, though. Break skin, attack relentlessly, send neighbors to the hospital.

Sounds to me like your girl is just playful. A lot of cats get lazy and ignore you. Feel lucky.

  20. Most cats remain playful through the first year of their life. My cat(around 10 months old) still will sneak up on me and bite me and such. They will eventually grow out of it, but for now they are still young and want to play around.

  21. Is she really serious or is she playing with you?  Is the bite bad (blood, etc) or is just semi hard?  Is she friendly to you otherwise?  If it is a serious problem that's ont thing.  But if it is just playfulness or her nature, than I wouldn't worry about it.  Is it really bad enough to put the cat to sleep?  I have had a lot of cats in my life and never had one bad enough to put to sleep over behavior.  Usually my cats get to know me over time and I get to know them (and there is an understanding).  You can teach cat's to respect you and listen to you if you mean business.  But I don't hit my cats, or spray them with water, etc.  That is not a good thing to do.  Maybe scare her with a newspaper without really hitting her.  Once you do it enough times, she may not like the idea of the newspaper being swatted towards her.  As much as you don't like being bite, there is some disciplinary action you can do (that's not cruel or abusive) that she won't like.  Than the behavior should stop.  if you really don't like the cat and she is not a danger to someone else, you might consider giving her to another home.  Never put a cat to sleep if it isn't warranted.  Some people like different kinds of animals, even somewhat crazy ones.  Long as she isn't a danger to them or their family/guests.  I would think about it seriously before doing anything hasty!
