I am drawing a picture for art class. The background is grass, which is colored green. There are about five big flowers in my drawing, but I want one to stand out more than the others. How can I achieve this through color?

  1. Use a oppostie colors (like a negative), a darker or lighter shade, press harder when you color it in, or the coolest is to outline it with a fine black pen.

  2. Like the person above me said, use a color that stands out. Another option is to color in the other stuff sort of blurry, and leave the one that stands out vibrant and sharp.

  3. You have a few choices actually.

    1. Use opposite colors on the color wheel.

    2. Use high contrast between the objects you want to stand out.

    3. Make you background more saturated, or grayer, and your main flower vivid in color.

    4. Make the primary flower larger than the rest.

    5. Make your background black and white instead of green and the primary flower the only one colored.

    6. Do not center you main flower, instead, use one of the methods above and make sure the main flower is off center.  This will actually draw more attention to it that it would if it were in the center.

Any of these or combinations of these will go a long way to make your primary subject stand out.  If you have any questions about any of these things let me know.
