I think i am allergic to latex so i can't use liquid latex. i was thinking about using nose wax. this is for a costume for daphne from the greek myth. she turns into a tree and so i wanted to make my skin look like tree bark.

  1. No real offense, but GLUE isn't the answer. Is this to be your LOOK, until the show is over?

Since it is a costume, are you allergic to knits, Lycra, etc. etc.

As  long time, and former props master, I've crafted faux trees often. First determine what fabric you can wear as a costume, then it could be as simple as Gaffers tape, strips, folded, bunched attached, then painted. It will be flexible, and certainly is durable.

Without knowing at all, any details, other than tree, what exactly is the intent for the costume and character? Will you have to remain static, hopefully just prior to Curtain and applause?

Will this be accomplished during an intermission, or a brief blackout?

How far from the front row audience will you be? Do you have a scenic painter? A simple uni-tard, painted to look like a tree, could work, and be believable from 30 ft. away. It is theater?acting,,, not real life.

  2. Try clear Elmer's glue.  When it dries it looks like wrinkles!  Try on a small spot first to make sure it does not affect you adversely!

    Good Luck!

  3. using dark brown foundation, make a clear solid surface. Then with a clean application brush, use a lighter shade of brown to draw long squigly looking lines.
