  1. Start with word of mouth advertising. On your flyers you need your name and number of course. It might help to add a cute graphic of a cleaning lady maybe with a cleaning supply or two. Years ago when my mother cleaned $20 was the going rate. If you want to charge per house, negotiate with your potential customer. Determine the rate that works for you, but be willing to negotiate for customers who have financial problems. If you can sum of your work experience in a brief sentence that will help. I've done some cleaning and charge $10 an hour.

What to look for in a cleaning lady: honest, doesn't steal, doesn't have a criminal record, hard worker, pleasant personality, responsible, dependable (if she can't make it she gives as much notice as possible), respectful of your wishes if you have any special rules or concerns, can't be allergic to pets if you have any of the furry variety.

Since honesty is an all-important trait, it helps to start with friends as clients or whatever you want to call them. People who know you well help build your reputation.

If I think of anything else I will add it.

    Happy cleaning!!
