How can I measure the inductance of a coil?

I have a tesla coil an i wanted to measure the inductance of the secondary coil. How do i do that without an lcr meter i have a basic resistance and voltage meter?

  1. Pick a frequency, at or near your operating frequency. Use a function generator, or a transformer if 60hz is good enough. And get a bunch of resistors. And an AC voltmeter.

    apply 10 volts AC or so across a resistor and the coil in series. Use the voltmeter to measure the voltage across the resistor, and then the inductor. Change/adjust the resistor until the two voltages are equal.

    then use

    XL = R = 2πfL

    where R is the resistor value.

    solve for L

    L = R / 2πf
