Question:

How can I motivate myself to get it done?

I have loads and loads and loads of coursework to do that needs to be handed in in a couple of days. The problem is that there is no challenge in it and I find it far to easy. I know this means that there is no problem in getting it done but I have no motivation to do it at all.

How have tried kicking myself up the *** but only ended up landing on it.

How can I get myself geared up to do it.

  1. I've been in your situation a few times before. Do you think you can get it all done in a couple of days if you apply yourself? If so, the only thing to do is to just start doing it. Once you start on it, then you'll find that the motivation to continue comes naturally. The hardest part to doing something like that is actually beginning the task. Once it's begun, it's much easier to finish. Nike is right - JUST DO IT! You'll find as you get older that there are a TON of things in life you have to do, but you will have no motivation to do them. You learn that you can't wait for motivation. Most of the time it will never come. The only way around it is to just dive in and get the job done. You'll feel like you're floating on clouds when you do finish, and you'll be SO glad that you're finally through! In fact, you'll kick yourself that you waited so long, because it's never as bad as you think it will be. Just do it. Sorry if that sounds harsh - but that's life.

  2. Visualize.

The best way I find to motivate myself is to visualize that it's the due date and you're sitting in class.  Everyone else is handing theirs in. It was an easy assignment, but good ol' you, you just didn't feel like doing it.  Now it's time to hand in the easy cheesy peasy pie assignment, and you're the only one who didn't do it.  Big F for you!

Does that help?  It would help me. Also, do you really want to stay up all night the night before due date to get done something you could have gotten done days earlier?  Why waste precious sleep?  Do the work. You'll feel a load of relief once you're all done.

Now go!  Go forth and climb that mountain!

  3. Its boring but this works...routines & rewards....you must divide your time between the task/job and then allowing yourself a treat or reward...focus for a fixed period and get stuck in (maybe a couple of hours)  then get right away from it and enjoy a diversion, food, TV, friends, walk, (DIY?) and such. Try and set aside fixed times when you will work and when you will allow yourself time to relax...make sure also you have the ability to relax when you can/need to i.e. you got nibbles in, good book, hire DVD and also make sure you get regular sleep (and not read till 4am) and go to bed and rise at a similar times everyday. Now get your @ss in gear

  4. think about all the s**+*t you'll get in......

or if that doesn't workout very well, listen to music while you do it...

  5. Break it down into small amounts so it doesn't seem like such as hurdle to overcome. Then make a deal with yourself and have a treat for completing each of your little sections eg. listening to your favourite tune, eating a cake, watching a bit of tv, running outside- what ever you think will be a good break but make sure you resume the next section. It is tough to stay motivated but it is good practice for  the future-you will find more that you have to do things that you don't especially enjoy more and more often.

  6. I have some great ideas for you, but it would take a while to write everything out.  I'll just tell you later.  J/K

I used to play with my easy assignments.  If I had to write a paper about my stance on abortion, I would write a paper about why I shouldn't have to choose a stance on abortion.  It's a little harder to do with math coursework, but the basic idea is to try tofind a way to make it more difficult or at least more interesting.

If you can find a way to entertain yourself with, at least, some of your work, the bit that's left doesn't seem so daunting a task.
