Question:

How can I offset the spice (not heat) in Indian food?

I bought a chicken korma indian meal kit, and followed all the directions properly to make it. The finished sauce is good, but way too spicy, as in the flavour is too strong, not the heat, which i don't mind. I diluded it with water but it ruined the consistency. Other than not put the whole spice pack in next time, what can I do to fix this?

Btw, I like indian food and I'm not trying to "water it down", this meal kit just seemed to have waaay too much spice for the amount of other ingredients I was told to put in

  1. Add some creamer, plain yogurt or coconut milk will do the trick!

You must read the label on your meal kit. I think the recipe from northern India where a lot of spice were used on all dish.

"Play" with your food first! Apply 75% from the packet on your next meal and see. Enjoy and have fun!

  2. If you eat this with rice, you'll be able to bland it down to a level that you like (more rice, less curry).  It should work out just fine.

  3. Many foods that are too spicy have chocolate added to them to "tone" it down.

    I'm a caterer

  4. My stepmom tells me to add yoghurt (plain) when things are too spicy and it works for me, also drink some milk/soy milk/rice milk with it if your tongue goes on fire! =)

  5. Try adding lemon or plain yoghurt is good or sour cream.

  6. Add a littlte bit of heavy whipping cream. This will tone down your spices.

I don't know what your recipe is, but normally, it has ground nuts, and yogurt. These items make the dish creamy and help tone down and blend in spices. You can try any of these itesm.

To me, heavy whipping cream is the easiest. It is also sweeter.
