it is very simple. go to the nearest hdfc bank or icici bank or axis bank and open a demat account with them. these three banks have internet banking facilties. you need your pan card and residence proff and id proof andone photograph . take all this with you and the account formalities ( account opening ) will be done in a few minutes only. the whole process is very very easy and simple

it is personally recommended that visit to any icicidirect branch and open  up your d-mat account. hope fully they will charges Rs. 750 for first year and need a copy of pan card, and address proof.

After opening of account they will provide you user-id and password use the same trade.

there are lot of banks like ICICI, IDBI offering demat account facility and you can operate your demat account from your home pc. Religare, India Bulls, India Infoline also proving this facility.

You just fill up an application at demat service provider's office and within a period of 3 - 4 weeks you can start working with your demat account.
