How can I open my old word documents with Vista?

My old computer died, but luckily I saved a few important documents, like my resume, on a disk before it became totally useless. The only problem is, I can't open them now using my new computer equipped with vista and the newer version on ms office. It's really frustrating because it basically makes my backing-up efforts useless. What can I do to get them to open at the very least, or convert them to .docx files?

The only thing I can think of is that Word might not like reading files from a CD.

Try copying the files to the hard disk and opening Word on them from there.

Word '07 is completely backwards compatible with older .doc files. They should open just fine. What error does it give when you try to open them?

What file format are the ones on the USB stick ? strange that you cant open them
