How can I open up a Guatemala bank account to send money from USA?

Is there a way to open up a bank account that I can deposit US dollars and someone in Guatemala withdraw money in Guatemala? I been sending money western union and seems to be costing me about 12 dollars per transaction, so I wanted to know if tehre is a better way to send the money to Guatemala?

if you are sending money for  a person there, tell him o tell her that they can  open a bank account at any bank ( not is necessary) and you can send the money throug xoom, is cheaper than wester union or money gram.   good luck.

Just get an extra ATM or debit card from your account here and send to Guatemala for them to use.  There are minimal fees, but nothing like Western Union.

One of the tomes my sister came to visit me, she opened a bank account here. When she needs money I just deposit it or transfer it into her account and she just takes it out over there.

If the person you are sending money to never comes here, the other answers are a good idea. just get them your ATM card.

There bis a much better way to send the money. Western Union is expensive.

Here is what you do. You open an account at any US Bank. You send the ATM card down to Guatemala. You deposit the money into it here and have them withdraw there. There will be some fees, about 2.50-3.00 per withdrawl. Less than Western Unioun charges.

Trouble is getting the card down there.

My wife and I have done this for her grandparents in the city.
