Question:

How can I organize and understand Math class?

I homeschool, and I have always had trouble with Math. I am not lazy, but it always seems that whenever I try to organize my Math class, it seems like there are so many parts within a math lesson, it is impossible to fathom organizing it.

I get a feeling of being overwhelmed, and I end up not organizing it. I am aware that not doing it will not solve or help the issue. My other classes look reasonable, where Math looks massive in assignment quantity. On top of that, its Math... The subject I fear with all my heart.

I attempt to understand it by looking it up on the internet, but I usually fail to comprehend what they are explaining. Any advice other than go to silvan?

  1. Keep a math writing notebook and lots of scratch paper; write your problem as neat as you can for future reference....And of course practice the same problem makes perfect understanding the next problem.

  2. You should ask your teacher and the teacher will explain it to you. If it doesn't help ask your teacher can she/he make the lesson more fun so you can remember it easy. You should write notes down on what your teacher said and if you don't understand it you can take it up to her and ask her what it means or if she couldn't explain it to you good you can take it to your Mum or Dad.

  3. >>On top of that, its Math... The subject I fear with all my heart.

You can start by getting over your own irrational phobias.

  4. Here is my comment.

One I have no idea about home school.  But that said, my colleague was home schooled and I mean by that he studies everything on his own.  He even gave himself tests.  Now he is in grad school doing PhD in mathematics.  Well finishing up his masters and then starting PhD.  Smart guy.  So no fear or worries about that.

Mathematics books can be a little hard to read and I assure you most of all other subjects in science can be a little hard to read.  Every discipline develop their own language or expressions if you like, which have certain meanings.  So let me advise now,

Understand what exactly your reading.  Example, derivative. What does it really mean.  Rate of change and so on.

Do a lot of problems.  Practice gets you there faster and helps you grasp the methods.  Again, read the topic well.  Fully comprehend the examples that are given.  Then do lots of assignments.  Their are several things online that can help you or find a local tutor, usually school these days even have free tutors.  You can also ask your parents for help.  Otherwise ask over here, plenty of people usually help.

Extra advice for college when you go there.  Discipline and good habits.  Eat well, sleep in timely matter, attend class always and put priorities such as school work before going out.  Now that said, good luck with that.  Its a lot harder than you think.   Having good habits and discipline is very hard.  Example, I should be sleeping right now.  Smiles.
