Question:

How can I paint a wall with texture after removing wall paper?

I just removed wall paper, so now I have a very very smooth drywall. I would like to get the walls to have textured paint look on them, instead of being so smooth.

Do I need to buy a special primer or other item to add a "paint brush" texture the walls? Any recommendations?

  1. In home centers give you the best primer and paint for your project. Use the recommended brush or roller to apply.

  2. There are all kinds of products you can buy at home depot or Lowe's that provide texture.

I used a plaster product that was fairly easy to apply that turned out great but it did require a little know how.

They also have tons of paint products you could use.

Just stop by any local paint department and let them know you want something with texture and they will get you going in the right direction.

    Good luck

  3. You can use a bucket of drywall mud to add texture. If you go to lowes they have a bucket with a green lid on, this is what you will want to use. What you want to do is get a gallon of new construction drywall primer, this is also found at lowes. You will need to purchase a larger mixer, it attatches to a drill. Pour the gallon of primer into the bucket of drywall mud and mix it, probally a couple minutes of mixing. After the nud is mixed you will use a 3/4 inch nap roller. Push it down into the bucket of mud until the whole roller is covered then apply it to the wall just like painting. You will know when you will need to repeat this process, the mud will thin. This will give you a streak like teaxture. Good luck and have fun!

  4. go to your local equipment rental place and ask them. they will rent you a machine that makes it easy, tell you about the materials, and it will be pretty cheap.

My brother asked me to do this for my grandmother when he was called away on a job, and I was VERY skeptical, but I did it, and it was way easier than I thought, and turned out fine. The hardest part of the job is taping everything off, then mixing the ingrediants, which takes about 15 minutes, and after that, it is a snap. It is about as difficult as vaccuuming a carpet. you spray this stuff on, if you want a special texture you buy a roller at someplace like Home Depot or a paint store, and it is really a lot easier than you'd think.

  5. You can use a venetian plaster to get a nice textured look, or use a special roller with thick paint. Go to your paint store and talk to the people there, they can show you all kinds of ideas.

  6. You can add texture by getting wall putty and a putty knife and spreading the putty on the wall in the pattern you want...then paint it.
