Fitted wardrobes, cavernous, need an update. I think they have been painted before, in cream, have pine handles that I would like to change to stainless steel. Any ideas anyone?

  1. If it has been painted before, repainting shouldn't be a problem. Just give it a light sanding with a fine grit sand paper or sanding pad. Wipe it carefully to remove any dust.

If it is the actual melamine surface (unpainted) that you are dealing with, you will want to sand it as described above. Purchase a bonding primer, they are specifically designed to bond with glossy or hard to paint surfaces. Then paint in your desired color.

A trip to your local home improvement center should take care of all of your needs, including the new handles. Take one of the handles with you to match up the hole alignment or plan on filling the holes and drilling new ones.

  2. First if your wardrobes have not been painted buy a melamine primer from B&Q. It is possible to buy speckled paint which can be applied with a roller (for real not a joke). This comes as a base coat could be white or pastel colour. top coat is a translucent glaze with specks of colour suspended in the glaze. This can be purchased from larger paint merchants (look in yellow pages) Tip after applying the base coat allow time to experiment with the top coat lightly roll do not go over twice. You will get an unusual finish which looks good
