Question:

How can I paint neutral colors when we have 4 active sons!?

We painted neutral , needing to sell asap, and we used egg shell, but these 4 boys are very... well... boyish.

I can't keep even egg-shell neutral clean. So we opted for cozy and went dark.

Agent said it does look posh, but it would be better neutral.

We sure are tired of painting.

Just how much do those neutral walls help?

And what else can we do to sell this place?

We've emptied it as much as we can while still raising a family in it. We've started on a new deck, we put in new flooring throughout, we're pepping up the porch and entrance this weekend, we dropped it 5 thou, and are considering another drop,

Help!

  1. Neutral walls are a BIG positive when selling a house. You should look for a paint that has good washability/scrubability and touch-up (read the back of the can.)  That way you can wash off stains/marks and touch up the worst spots.

When we were looking for our house, homes with wild colors on the walls were a huge turnoff.  And the buyer knows they'll probably have a lot of work to do when they buy (or will have to pay someone to do it.)

  2. make sure the outer is very clean and tidy (lawn cut, no garbage on the lawn, etc.) neutral DEFINATELY sells a house, dark makes the home look small and depressing.

I'd go paint with neutral, or even let more light in the room if you can. explain to your boys that you need to sell your house, and they have to watch themselves on the walls when they play, etc.

other than that, i recommend dropping your home price.
