If your idea is for an invention, apply for a patent.  It can be expensive and time-consuming, but once it's done you can market it yourself or get companies to pay you to make it and sell it.

If your idea is more of a theory, submit it to a journal.  There are thousands of peer-reviewed journals.  If you go to the appropriate science/ humanities/ literature section of yahoo, hopefully the people there can help steer you to an appropriate journal.
