I want to know the COMPLETE legal process of becoming a Canadian Citizen. (From the very first day in Canada till getting the Citizenship)

You can share your own life's story if u wish to.

I am a 21 year old Asian, residing in an Arab Country since birth. I am very serious about settling in Canada and some of my friends recommended to enter there as a Student.

One more question:

Can a person with study permit transfer to Permanent Work Visa?

The best way for answers to these questions was a meeting with Embassy counselor, but unfortunately there is no Canadian Embassy here.

No silly comments please.

  1. i would call the canadian government on details how to

  2. To obtain immigration leading to citizenship, you must have a University degree (equivalent to  Canadian degree) & at least with one year of work experience. You also must prove that you are able to take around $10,000 CAD with you when u are granted the visa.

You can enter Canada as student if u want (I wont recommend that though) after finishing ur course (for minimum duration of one year giving u at least University Diploma at completion) you can apply for one year work experience visa. Once you complete that u can apply for immigration to live in Canada.

So I'd suggest rather entering Canada as student its better if u study in ur country & then work for one (preferably two) years and then apply for immigration directly. There may be a long waiting time but its worth.

I am printing the Canadian Government Official website for Immigration to Canada, it gives each detail from how to apply ... to ... how to move to Canada after successful immigration visa. Please read it & you can decide yourself.

    Good luck.

    ---- Update ----

You cannot apply within Canada, most of the students in Canada apply from Canadian mission in Buffalo (USA).

  3. The complete process from permanent residence to citizenship can take about 5-8 years.  You first have to obtain legal permanent residence in Canada.  You can do that after you complete your university studies and apply for a work permit in Canada.  This process takes about 1-2 years to complete and when finished will give you permanent residence in Canada.  After 3 years of PR in Canada you will be eligible to apply for citizenship and this will take about another year to receive.

If you want to consider coming to Canada as a student to finish your degree please be aware that student visa's are only temporary and do not count as legal permanent residence toward gaining citizenship.  Also you should know that student visa's are not transferable to other visa's and you will have to exit Canada once your student visa expires.

All of this information and more can be found on the CIC website at www.cic.gc.ca

  4. First off, you need a skill, in order to get enough points for your Permanent residency application.  Nursing and Pharmacist are two that I know, and you can look on the NOC for others. http://workingincanada.gc.ca/search_occu...

If you do want to study in Canada, you can apply for a work permit, which would help you get some work experience here, which will help your application for permanent residency.  The trouble with studying here is that is can be expensive, because you pay the international rate..  You might be better off studying there, and getting work experience there, and having a good portfolio of skills to offer.
