How can I pick up someone at Terminal 1 from SFO?

I have never picked up someone from the airport, who is coming in tomorrow on a domestic flight into SFO at Terminal 1. What is the general protocol - can I just drive through and pick them up curbside, or do I park somewhere? I am from a small town and just moved to the city, so all this is new!

  1. When your friend arrives have'em call you and decide whether you'll meet on the first level or second level, front/ back, north /south, whatever the airport layout is.  When I pick up my friend he comes out at departures instead of arrivals.  It's less crowded and we always agree he'll come outside and walk down to the end of platform away from the clog of cars and taxis right under an airline sign.  I'll circle around once or twice until I see him.  At our airport you can't stop, and parking is a drag and really a waste of time.  Most people pick someone up outside baggage claim, but it gets crowded and it's easier to do like I said above.  Tell'em to go to the departures level and go out the door to the drivearound road, turn to the right and walk until you find an open spot, even go down to the end of the pickup/dropoff zone so she/he's easy to see.

  2. you can check maps and arrival info at http://www.sfoairport.com/web/page/index...

there is cell phone wait area, then you can pick up at curbside, otherwise, you have to pay $1 for every 15 min.
